My daughter and I are visiting my parents, who live on a lake. We were walking on the shore when I saw some shells. I thought they were apple snails!

But this is Michigan, and this lake probably never got above 60°, even in the summer.

I spent way too much time searching, deciding those sutures are way too deep to be a pond snail (which there are plenty of for comparison). I learned about mud snails and acute mud snails, viviparus connectus. They are cousins to the apple snail.

How cool is that?

Next time capture some, I will certainly buy them from you.

Thanks for the info! I've seen those too and thought the same thing!
