I made a fish trap then I set it up this morning. Worked ok. This is what i caught. I know is a sunfish but what species? Think it may be a blue gill.

At that size, getting an ID is very difficult. It could be a blue gill

Yeah had a feeling it was. I made a bigger trap with a bigger bottle. I'm hoping to catch one of the pygmy species. But we'll see.

Having caught thousands of bluegill and other fish in my seine net that is no bluegill. I would say crappie those pop up way less often in my area so good catch

Thats what i do. I go to acouple of creeks a few times a week. always go under the overpass. I'm sure people think I'm an alcoholic just hiding under the bridge to get drunk. Lol. With good reason there always a few whiskey and vodka bottles scattered on the floor.

Green sunfish. Interesting. Do they get big?

2-3 lbs at most here is a tiny one i caught a couple days ago

2-3lbs that must be some sort of world record haha, mot state records are not even a pound, they don't get very big in the wild

could I see how you made the trap??

Pretty simple. Just cut the top portion of a bottle and invert it. Like I did. Drilled holes to run a rope through it. I found this bottle at a creek I visit and it gave me the idea. You can use a bigger bottle.
