Tropical?

I'm sure it's possible, given that some tropical fish are found in natural ponds - it just depends on your environment. The hardest and most expensive part would be trying to keep the pond at a tropical temperature while outside especially in the winter. And if the power went out and you didn't have a back-up generator for the heaters - your pond would get wiped out in a matter of minutes.
 
Many people keep tropicals in a pond for the summer. Many of the livebearers can take a wide range of temps, but the fish need to be removed when it gets cool.
