Our son accidentally caught his frog with an ornament. 10 mins later what I can only describe as a small round ball seemed to move inside its stomach just under surface of skin.
After 10 mins or so it's whole stomach skin is inflated, it looked like it was full of air and the skin transparent. Its since gone down a little but still transparent and now looks like there is water in there on one side. Poor frog is stuck at top of water. I don't know whether to put it out of its misery or help it in some way? Son is inconsolable, please help if you can.

I don't know, sounds like internal bleeding. I am not assuming that it damaged the superficial skin because you didn't say that.

You might've damaged its ability to take in air while under water? Most frogs can intake air superficially.

I'd leave it. There is nothing anyone can do but to wait and see if he can heal.
