Really its a matter of what you are interested in. Many members here seem to have red-eared sliders, but other types like musk turtles are common as well.

What they eat?
Just about anything

Best types?
All depends on you and what you like and what you can care for.

Living requirements?
They are all different in a way but they all have to have a basking area and need uvb lighting.

Could anything go with it?
No they eat shrimp, snails and fish. They can also be aggressive to other turtles.

No they are not low maintenance IMO but not a whole lot different then fish. The tank size will depend on what type of turtle you are getting. Look at the link I posted above. You can look up every turtle there is and it will give you care info for each one

I'll just have a quick check I would have looked earlier but since I have not replied in ages I wanted to say something quicker

Gulf Coast Smooth Softshell Turtles - Abalone mutica calvata

Like the look of them
Any good?
Hard?
Snappy?
Salmonella?

That looks cool however I don't know anything about that one. You should probably check to make sure you can get your hands on the ones you like before reading a ton of info on them. I ordered my stinkpot from www.turtleshack.com

Looking a bit costly might leave it for a bit
Thanks for all the advice though you've been a great help
