10gal sump - 500gph overflow - Pump?

I can't recall if the pump must be slower than the overflow or faster? It's a store bought (no name). But rated for about 500gph. I suspect that if I get a 500gph pump that will be enough since the 3-4 feet up will slow that down.

That about right? It's a 10 gal sump so I'm trying to be fairly accurate and I do have "just in case" room for back flow to the sump.

The overflow should be faster so you wouldn't have to have a valve to control the pump's output. Yea, get something similar to the Mag 5 because 3-4 feet up would mean you're only getting ~250 gph.
