I started a 25g as an experiment a year ago to see if I could maintain it. It has been quite a success and I'm moving up to a 36. How do I transplant? I was thinking, start the new tank, get it cycled and only transplant the living. Problem is, my mushrooms, birds nest, zoas, and brain are all permanently fixed to about 20lbs of live rock. I'm afraid that a single large migration (after cycling the water with ~15-20lbs live rock) would be too drastic of a shock and send the tank through another cycle potentially killing everything.
My other thought was to use my 25g as a refugium of sorts and filter the two tanks together to help balance the tanks making the migration less drastic. Though I'm afraid that might send my current tank through cycle killing everything anyway...
Help!!!!
Any guidance is much appreciated.
