So I'm in the process of starting a new 29 gallon reef tank. I will be getting 25lbs of dry rock 25lbs of sand a 165w led and a jebao wp10. What I was wondering was if this hang on back refugium will be good enough to maintain my tank. I will be only be keeping lps and softie corals. ImageUploadedByAquarium Advice1428677105.431790.jpg

HOB refugiums can be a waste of time, depending. Small amounts of algae can only export so many nutrients. But, tbh, for that much money it isn't worth your time.

So what do you think I should use as filteration

No problem. Make sure you research into a quality skimmer, if that is the route you choose to go. There are many that are straight garbage and a waste of your money.

There are many different filtration methods and such, but until you know what your system is like it can easily just become a money sink that you might not even need.
