got my 1" bio balls(50 pcs). will put them later.
I hope it fits in the back.

Yes, take some out, you shouldn't need the whole bag in that size tank.

You can keep a small reef,but as others stated you need to keep close eye on it .I would also say do a 50% water change weekly.Did 3 gallon for two years that way.https://youtu.be/mQGNQDpJNFE
 
For when your corals grow faster than the trace elements in your was. In that small of a tank you will never need to use those unless you have tons of acropora/sps which I don't reccomend for a beginner/such a small tank.
 
so right now my filtration is good.
live rock rubble, bio-balls, filter floss and i left the mechanical filter that comes with the tank.

Thanks,with the weekly water changes I kept three sexy shrimp,one golden coral banded shrimp and a neon goby with no problems.

and what is a good hermit crab to put on a reef tank? i've read also that you can put 1 hermit crab in a 2-3 gallon.
planning putting on snails also.
 
So I got my refractometer, just checked my salinity and it reads 1.020
