40 gallon breeder

Has anyone ever tried a FOWLR setup in a 40 breeder? I like the 40 gallon breeder because of its width. I may seriously get into saltwater in the future so I am weighing out my options. If I do get into the saltwater portion of the hobby I would like to get a pair of clowns, a cleaner shrimp, blue legged hermits and that's pretty much it unless there is some small fish that might get along with those guys.
