I have set up my 40g as a reef. It has about 40lbs of live rock and 30lbs of sand. Its been running for about 4 months. Mainly SPS/LPS tank

Equipment

Lighting: Coralife 4x24w t5ho with ATI bulbs its not as long as the tank but it lights the area where corals are just fine and is just temporary till I move and put my LEDs over the tank. Or I may put a 250Watt MH over it. We will see later.

Power Head: MP10 ES

Over Flow: CRP Overflow box (Picked it up basicly for free from the LFS)

Return Pump to Tank: Mag 5

Return to Fuge: Maxijet

Sump/Fuge: I run 2x 14g RubberMaids 1 as sump 1as fuge. I just use a gravity feed to drain the fuge.

Skimmer: Reef octopus bh1000

Heaters: 2x Fluval heaters

I put a 3" sand bed in the fuge and am working on getting another inch of sand for a DSB. I will be adding chaeto when I can get my hands on some. My fuge has rather slow flow going through it and will be running a light on it.

I am getting a Reef Keeper Lite Plus for Xmass so i will be running everything off that. Sumps costs was about 35$ that includes the PVC, 14g Tubs, Builkhead, and brackets. The rest of the equipment I already had.

Cord mess is being tackled in about 15mins lol
sorry about how cloudy it is I just set up the fuge and the sand was a bit mercy.
Heres the whole system i just did all the pluming today.

Had a bit of a leak out of the bulkhead so I silicone it we will see how that works out.

Anyone know a good place to get some good macro algaes on line cheap? My lfs's are always out

Looks good!

Be wary of that overflow. I used to have one of those and I ended up moving everything into a different tank because I hated it so much. I went through 3 Aqualifters and a couple of powerheads, and as soon as your pump fails... flood. Fortunately, I happened to be home to narrowly avert no less than 5 floods.

I've heard really good things about reefcleaners.org for macros.

Well luckily my tank is sitting right next to my Sump Pump that kicks the water out of the house. Its literately right beside the water barrel.

What causes a flood? just the pump failing or the lose of siphon right?

Aqualifter fails, overflow loses suction and stops draining.... and in the meantime, your return pump keeps going! lol

Were you using the pre-filter

I used whatever came with the setup. It looked just like the one in the pics above.

Why have an aqualifter on it? you can just put the tube under the water and you wont lose siphon

I had the aqualifter on it to pull air out of the overflow to avoid loss of suction. I also tried a couple of powerheads. The unit was essentially non-functional without a pump attached. JME.

I'm talking about this little thing.

See all that gunk? That's probably what caused your pump to fail if you didn't have one on it.
