75 GAL LIGHTING ?
Currently have a 36" satelitte [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Power compact fluorescent"]pc[/acronym:1e4cc87abb] (off old tank) I want to upgrade so I can have coral and a clam. Can I just buy two metal halides and hang them above the 36" [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:1e4cc87abb]? I'm alittle concerned the [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:1e4cc87abb] would block some of the light from the [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:1e4cc87abb]'s. I could push the [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:1e4cc87abb] to the front or back and put the [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:1e4cc87abb]'s in front or behind?
Or scrap the ex. [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:1e4cc87abb] all together and get a 48" [acronym:1e4cc87abb="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:1e4cc87abb]? Thanks |

do you have a canopy?
clams.. i would consider 2-250W [acronym:85b302ecb6="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:85b302ecb6] and you could use the [acronym:85b302ecb6="Compact Flourescent"]CF[/acronym:85b302ecb6] with some [acronym:85b302ecb6="Actinic lighting"]03[/acronym:85b302ecb6] bulbs for accent lighting.. I would center the [acronym:85b302ecb6="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:85b302ecb6] and put the [acronym:85b302ecb6="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:85b302ecb6] to the front or back.. [acronym:85b302ecb6="Just My Humble Opinion"]JMHO[/acronym:85b302ecb6] though.. |

You could also try to find a nice 48" retro kit or fixture and sell the 36" unit. Depends on if you have a canopy already. Were you going to do [acronym:e5f7a27cf0="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:e5f7a27cf0] pendents or put them in a canopy.
I have 2x250 with 2x54 watt T5's over my 75 [acronym:e5f7a27cf0="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:e5f7a27cf0]. Works out nicely. For clams, definatley go with [acronym:e5f7a27cf0="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:e5f7a27cf0].

Yes I have a canopy - which is part of the problem the [acronym:7c7662acdd="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:7c7662acdd]'s would only be about 6" off the water depending on the depth of the fixture. I would definately put a few cooling fans in the canopy.
I would like to keep the 36" [acronym:7c7662acdd="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:7c7662acdd] and use two [acronym:7c7662acdd="Metal halide light"]MH[/acronym:7c7662acdd]'s I think this would be the cheapest way wouldn't it. Thanks again for the comments. |
