Hello, I came from the SW
world and had a 250 gallon SW
reef setup that i had to sell before moving long distance.
I am now a bit more settled in my new location and decided to start a new tank, this time freshwater
Boy am i noticing the differences :P
So on to my questions,
My 40 Gallon tank (Tall) is fully cycled and i current have it stocked with these fish
8 Beacon Tetras
8 Neon Tetras
2 Dwarf blue gouramis
1 Australian Rainbow Fish
1 Golden Nugget Pleco
Am i running it overstocked? The fish seem to have their space to roam without hitting each other, and have settled to their "territories" from what i can tell.
I picked the golden nugget because honestly i fell in love with it when i saw him at the LFS
, is 6" (his max grow size from the sites ive seen) going to be ok in the long haul for this sized tank? I figure my two largest fish will be the australian and the GN Pleco.
How often should water changes be done, i was thinking around 20% every other week but i am not sure if that would be sufficient.
I have a Eclipse 3 filtration system, hood integrated with lighting. I notice that it seems to overflow a little from the filter chamber to the biowheel chamber, i called Marineland and they told me to replace the filter media. I just replaced it 2 weeks ago i find it hard to believe that i would have to replace the media every 2 weeks. Any suggestions? The filter seems to be doing a great job, but i just noticed the slight overflow last night.
