Hey guys - I set up a 30 gallon tall reef tank- everything is going well but I think I want to add a 10 gallon sump to it. Can this be done? Any good threads or YouTube clips you know of that shows how to add a sump when the tank is already up and running??

I just did that I built a ten gallon sump and then added with a hob overflow was very easy I just filled sump with the water that I was going to do a water change with and plugged pump in and it's up and running. A heads up is to wash your filter sock and brick foam very well in some rodi water and it will affect your skimmer for a little bit. Search ebay and YouTube for hob overflow.

Any disadvantages of an HOB overflow? Vs a traditional overflow??

HOB overflows can lead to a flood if the siphon is broken (power outtage or excess trapped air bubbles) as where drilled tanks that is not an issue.
