Adding sump refugium to cycling tank?

My 27 tank is towards the end of the cycle
Nitrites are high
and nitrates are beginning to appear
I have a 10 gallon diy sump/refugium that i want to connect to my main tank
how should i go about this
can i just connect it to my tank and thats it?

You have to have a way to get water to it from the tank and a powerhead in it to return the water from sump back to tank. After you get it up an running there are many different ways to utilize your sump.

I got an overflow box on the way and im going to buy a return pump.
I was just wondering if it will affect the cycle of my tank or have any type of effect since i am going to add some live sand and macro-algae to the refugium

All I have running now is my HOB power filter but im just using that to circulate the water
When should i connect my sump refugium to my tank?
After its fully cycled?
And when should i begin to run my protein skimmer?

All of the above after you start adding livestock once the cycle is done.

You are going to have to be more specific as to what a reef light is. Is it an LED fixture? T5HO?

Pretty strong light. It might not need a fan...but your tank might. You should start a thread about it or do some research on it. I'm far from an expert.
