Am I on the right track?

I've been reading like mad for the past month on Salt water. I plan to do a [acronym:2d1333f58b="Fish only"]FO[/acronym:2d1333f58b] with [acronym:2d1333f58b="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:2d1333f58b]/[acronym:2d1333f58b="Live sand"]LS[/acronym:2d1333f58b] tank to start.

CSL 40x2 [acronym:2d1333f58b="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:2d1333f58b].

I plan to add either a [acronym:2d1333f58b="Ultra Violet"]UV[/acronym:2d1333f58b] or a Protien skimmer after the cycle.

I'm about to order 45# of Gulk rock from Liverocks and 15# of live sand/mixing with another 15# of Carib Sea "non-live" sand.

What should I run in the canister as fas as media and do you see something that is not a good idea here?

Still deciding on Distilled or [acronym:2d1333f58b="Reverse osmosis"]RO[/acronym:2d1333f58b] water (will be one or the other, not tap).

Thanks

It all sounds pretty good to me.. since you already have the canister you can use it with just [acronym:a5336557ef="Granular Activated Carbon"]GAC[/acronym:a5336557ef], otherwise with that amount of [acronym:a5336557ef="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:a5336557ef] you didn't actually need additional filtration of that form.

I would skip the [acronym:a5336557ef="Ultra Violet"]UV[/acronym:a5336557ef] and get a good skimmer, it will be far more beneficial.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll go ahead and order the AquaC Remora.

What do you think about my lighting situtation? I'm getting 2.6 [acronym:1165212def="Watts Per Gallon"]wpg[/acronym:1165212def] with the CSL [acronym:1165212def="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:1165212def]... is this enough to keep good growth on my [acronym:1165212def="Live rock"]LR[/acronym:1165212def]?

If you mean coralline then yes it will be fine, although on the slow side. Is one of the bulbs actinic?

Might want to double check what kind of lighting you have. Personally I have never heard of a 40 w [acronym:23a4367541="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:23a4367541] bulb before. That is usually [acronym:23a4367541="Normal Output Fluorescents"]NO[/acronym:23a4367541].

Cheers

It's [acronym:602f6bbb15="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:602f6bbb15], believe me. Custom Sea Life 20" with 2 40 watt bulbs and moon light.

CSL went out of business, sold there products to Orbit about 6 months ago. Here is a link to the actual light I have: http://secure.microbyte.net/virtual/...1020&storeid=1

My appologies. I was not aware that Current USA made one. Are they Sunpaq's?

Cheers

I am running the original bulbs still that CSL shipped with. Dual Actinic 420/460 and the 10K daylight.

Most people don't belive me when I tell them I have a 20" [acronym:adac58c0f5="Power compact fluorescent"]PC[/acronym:adac58c0f5]... they are not a "standard" size, neither is 80 watts.
