Gloves. In large systems pollution carried in on your hands is irrelevant usually, not so for small systems. I just use dish washing rubber gloves that I keep just for this purpose and don't use them for anything else.

Something that works great is powder laundry detergent. Cuts through the grease, my choice over zep or any other commercial/industrial hand cleaner.
