base rock question

I'm setting up a 110 reef tank,and i was going to use base rock then place the live rock on top. will the beneficial critters start to grow on the base rock? how long does it take? and what type of basr rock, if any do you recommend?

i will be using hallide lighting. and a live sand refugium.

any suggestions?

yes, the critters will start too grow on your base rock, i used carib sea reef base rock, it ididnt take long before i noticed algae growing on it as for critters i never realy counted.
