Well, epic fail today. No running water and no fish. The plumbing through all the wood and figuring out the configuration to the filter took too much time and weekday life kicked in at 5:30. I'll finish tomorrow (said the foolish man earlier in this thread).
We had planned to get our clown fish pair tonight as well but they didn't have a mated pair at Animal Jungle or 2 near the same size. Actually kinda' strange, they only had 3 percula clowns tonight. Really small, really big and something in the middle with a scrape it appeared. They must of sold out earlier (fish are 20% on Wednesdays).
Oh well... it was good not to rush anyway. So finish plumbing, get the skimmer figured out and get things settled until I find a nice pair.
you may think it a jenky set up to have that split return like you built, but i got mine up and running today and am pleased with it. i think its a great set up, for my tank at least, for supplementary flow with the actual power heads. plus it does return water.
Well the rock was 6years old when I got it and I have had the tank going for about 6 weeks give or take. It appears to have been cycled a few weeks ago. I've had snails and crabs in there for a few weeks as well trying to clean stuff up. Lots of algae and diatoms without a good flow and filtration going. I'm probably getting fish this weekend or next Wednesday. Depends on price and stock. We're starting out with 2 clowns for now.
I mixed 20gallons yesterday and I'm mixing another 10 right now. Hopefully that's enough to fill everything. I'm also going to try and get another 50lbs of rock for the sump and a few more pieces for the main display.
Anemone too??? I think if doing one best to put in first before any corals so it can get its spot. Usually once they find spot they like it won't move. I wish I knew better when I first started my tank and put anemone in first. Now I'm afraid to. Don't want it to kill any corals.
We're getting a pair of perculas.... I have kids so what can you do I'm planning on getting a bubble tip of some sort for them, and yes, plan on getting that before any corals. All a long way down the road though.
