Hi

Have been up and running the 40 gal fish-live rock-reef tank for about a month. Have blue tang, clowns and some coral.

Just started to notice brown substance "growing" in spots on the rock. Is it algae ? Bad?

Thanks

Hi I am in the exact same situation as you and mr x told me yesterday it's a nutrient issue.its very common in new aquariums and is easy to get rid of if you take the necessary steps http://saltaquarium.about.com/cs/alg...a/aa071103.htm

Diatoms is something all new tanks go thru. You'll see it on rock, sand, heater, and glass. It'll pass almost as quick as it appeared.
