Brown algae

I just started an aquarium. It has been running for two weeks now and is starting to show brown algae on the live sand and live rock. Is this normal. i was told that this was a good sign that the tank was beginning to cycle. Is this true. Any help would be appreciated.

Yup. Normal. It should burn itself off in a week or so.

What are your ammonia/nitrate/nitrite levels?

Thanks! My ammonia is .50, nitrate is 10, and nitrite is 0. My Ph has been fluctuating between 7.8 and 8.3.

Ya, it will go away on it's own. You almost done with the cycle it sounds like!
