hi all. iam unsure weather or not to add an air pump and air stone to my tank to add a stream of bubbles. so what i would like to know is does this have any affect on the tank life will it harm anything or is it just pointless and to look good

Airstones are usually for fresh water applications. I would say to keep it around in case the power goes out. It is a good way to aerate the water in a pinch.

Some skimmers use air stones but that is a different story.

it will cause a lot of salt buildup on surfaces that are near the tank. the little bubbles popping at the surface will throw tiny amounts of water and you'll have a mess in a short time. in the hobby, it's called salt creep.
