You dont even need sand for it. Mangroves, ive seen with sand and mud so its your opinion.

Sure, Unless the sand is over 4" deep, their isnt really a reason to have it. A refugium is a nitrate exporter and a deep sand bed is another way. Just make sure the shrimps dont get out into the return. What kind of shrimps were you thinking of? How many gallons is the refugium?

hmmm I don't know how many gal yet, I m still waiting for the silicone to get ready for water.
probably 10gal. but if I need 4" of sand, then there will only be like 5gal left OoO

I am thinking to put couple pep shrimps in, or willing to take any suggestions on wt should I put in my refugium.
