Would purchasing a calcium reactor for my 75g reef tank be a good idea? What exactly does a calcium reactor do? What are some of the pros and cons of owning one?

Pros:
Automated control of calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium.
Less day to day work on your part.
Cheaper long term if your tank uses enough Ca, KH, and Mg.

Cons:
Larger investment at beginning.
Can be more complicated to deal with than just adding liquid additives.
Not economical if your tank does not use a lot of Ca, KH, or Mg.
It uses more equipment, which inevitably can fail.

Thank you for the info. I've had freshwater experience in the past and saltwater is new for me, I plan on just getting a few mushrooms to start off with, I don't think I'll be getting any hard corals for a while so perhaps I will wait before I think about a calcium reactor.

Yeah, you definitely don't need to worry about it. You don't even need to test for Ca or Mg until you have some stony corals.
