CALL FOR HELP PLEASE: How do you check for leaks in

a used DRILLED aquarium tank?

I finally bought a used 75 gallon tank, stand, and sump. Now I need to check for leaks and I am stumped. Do I plug the holes with something? With what? I tried doing a search but but only one of the results deals with drilled tanks.

My tank has two holes on the bottom and a built-in overflow.

Since the tank is used I was hoping to check for leaks with it out in my driveway.

The only applicable answer in my search so far is to connect the sump with the return pump and the plumbing that goes with it. Then fill it with tap water. Lastly, start the pump and hope no leaks!

Is this the only way? Also, how long should I do this for? I would do it in the garage. But then I need to move the whole enchilada into my living room. I am leery or doing this IN the house.

Suggestions? Advice?

You shouldn't need it hooked up to the sump, but you would want to install the standpipe and return plumbing in their bulkheads. Make sure your stand is level in the driveway before filling for your test.
