Can a FW tank biologically seed a SW tank?

I'm about to take the SW plunge. I have an established FW tank, and wasn't sure if I could use some gravel from it to help jump start the bio filter in my SW tank. TIA.

Nope, completely different bacteria.

True...SW bacteria maintain a completely different osmotic pressure than FW bacteria. The change in external salt concentrations would cause the cells to burst. Good question though. HTH
