Just set up a new 15gal fowlr tank and I was wondering if I can add fish straight away?

The sand isn't live but the 15lbs of rock I have were taken from a mature setup at my lfs.

The temp is stable and I have all the equipment and test kits I need to run the tank, plus another 13gals of premixed water for any pwc.

What are your tests at? Dont add fish yet because there is a major die off when transporting live rock. When was the tank set up?

Tanks been up about 2 days. Can't test right now due to being at work.

Can test in around an hour.

You said major die off. Is that even if the store is 10 min drive away?

You won't have major die off but you could still have a mini cycle. It would be good to test and see where your parameters are at just to be safe

Quick testing showed these results.

Ammo .25-.50ppm
TrItes .00ppm
TrAtes .00ppm (didn't test as no nitrite usually indicates no trates.)

Ph 8.0

Guess I'm not quite ready for fish.

The die off will help cycling the tank so that's a positive.

Yeah, just follow through with a cycle, about 2-3 weeks should be fine

My gf sent me these pics and asked me to see if anyone knew what they/it is/are.

First are asterina starfish, harmless. Second is aiptasia, a pest. Third looks to be a coral

Sadly I don't have light that would sustain a coral so it will likely die :(

Also tested params last night and found;

Ammo .25-.50
TrItes .00
Trates .00

Still got a ways to go. Least I have something to look at ^_^

actually once niTRITES are converted to niTRATES. so a properly cycled tank will show amm-0 trites-0 and some amount of trates.

I know how cycling works, I've cycled at least a dozen freshie tanks this year ^_^

But with visible Ammo and 0 nitrites I've found 99% of the time that testing for trates is wasted.
