Ok I have this sump for my 180g freshwater. I would like to eventually one day convert to salt would this work. Can I put a skimmer next to the return pump? Would you replace the bio balls with live rock and or cheato? Or would you sell this setup and start new?

If you put the skimmer in the return section you will need an ATO so that the water level never changes in the compartment, if not the skimmer will go crazy some days and some days not skim at all.

I wouldnt go reef with that type of wet/dry filter though...maybe for fish only but it will only trap nitrates which are a no no with corals....
