Does anyone have an opinion on this? I am considering replacing my canister with a Wet/Dry. My LFS tells me this is a better way to control my nitrates, since I have been having a problem keeping them down.

See my profile for my tank configs.

Thanks

Wet Dry`s have their Pros and cons. One of the cons is that are refered as nitrate factories. But I had one for several years in my 55 and I found out that as long as I did PWC`s then I was OK on the nitrates. I now have a 125 and a refugium.

High nitrates have been associated with both of them. A sump style wet/dry seems to be much more versatile though. I went to the sump style so that I could get my skimmer, heaters & probes out of the display tank and down below in the wet/dry where I don't have to look at them.

removing things from the display tank and having them in the sump sounds like a good idea. Also, i provide me the opportunity to replace my inefficient skimmer with a better one.
