I'm setting up my 75 gal, and since there is nothing live in the tank yet, I filled it with dechlorinated tap water, and then mixed my salt in the tank. I added the recommended amount of half cups per gallons. I've got my sump running and two powerheads mixing the water. I waited a good 30 min and checked the sg. It seems to be stuck at 1.014 though. Do I just need to wait it out? I've added an entire bag by now.

Im using a plastic hydrometer. I'll start adding more and see if it goes up.

Throw the hydrometer in the bin, you may as well guess the specific gravity....

Invest in a refractometer, essential piece of equipment in this game in my honest opinion.

like ftmm said a bag only makes about 50 to 55 gals. you probable need another half a bag or so. You should't mix it in the tank either cause its probable harder to get it mixed right

Thanks guys. I guess I just wasn't adding enough salt. I've gotten it up to 1.024. I'll invest in a refractometer also :)
