Is it beneficial to put Carbon in a mesh bag and throw it into the sump? I don't have room in my sump for a filter or reactor. Thanks

If you have no other spot, it's better than nothing but not much. Water takes the path of least resistance, so chances with the bag just laying in the sump the water will flow around it.

There are reactors that hang outside the sump and only a small pump needs to be in the water.

If there's any room for a small HOB filter on your sump, you can always run the carbon there on the cheap.
