The man at the fish store told me not to put carbon in the filter while i was cycling my tank. Why is that?

carbon while cycling

as I understand it, you want to keep all the chemicals (ie ammonia) in the tank during cycling. this makes the good bacteria grow. Also, it means you'll be sure that biofiltration is working.

Well that does make sense. I never thought of that.

Should you put the carbon in there at a later time.

Yes, it will help clean the water.... Some people run carbon all the time changing it once a month. I run it everyonce in a while when I'm having people come over, it makes the water clearer.
