I voted "3 days a month in sump", but in actuality what I do is run carbon whenever I feel there is something in my tank that shouldn't be there. I leave the carbon in my overflow cup (since it is really the smallest bottleneck of flow) and remove it after about 3 days.

24/7 in sump, replace it every 3-4 weeks. I guess I should really replace it sooner?

Can someone tell me the best way to use the bag method in the sump? I have a can of Marineland black diamond AC and would like to incorporate it.

do you guys think it is better in the overflows or in the sump (in between the glass plates, so water going through it). Im just asking really as i have just put carbon into a bag in the sump after the tank has been set-up for 3 months, and it has made a huge difference to water clarity.

im just wondering if i should leave it in all the time and replace it once a fortnight? or just have it in 3 days a month, or 3 days a fortnight?

all help appreciated.

Some sort of plastic strainer cup suspended below the skimmer outport would be effective. I would not suggest placing it bewtween the baffles. As detritus builds up you could end up with reduced flow and a possible flood.

You do not need much to do a good job. A few ounces of carbon swapped out once a week should do the trick. Or if you want just running for a few days each week/month.

Cheers
Steve

I use the carbon pads that I place under the incoming water to my sump.

Would the bag be a better choice?
