its a stringy green algae that you harvest in your refugium... the theory is, grow it in the fuge, consuming the nutrients that grow algae, and that way their isn't any left to grow algae in the display. And you get tons and tons of pods that live in it, which provides live food for your fish and corals.

It's meant to go in a sump since it's not the prettiest of tank plants. The pods thrive in the sump and then will enter the tank via the return pump. Don't worry about the pump blades killing the pods, they're too small for it to effect them.

My LFS uses the return pump from their sump to feed their mandarin pods. Maybe the skimmer was used after the fuge, which would definitely kill a ton of pods.

What about the overflow? I have a sock hooked up after the overflow and the pods may wind up back in the overflow and into the sock?

Can't you just put a piece of rock in the sump that you rotate in and out of the main display for the pods to come out of?
