I was just wondering if it is normal for an ocellaris clown to take on a dark color. Over the past few days his back has taken on a black shade to it. Seems like this started after i added my second clown as a companion. He eats and swims around normal and the two clowns are always together. I have seen a few pics where they seem to have a black back.

TIA
Ian

From what I remember most clowns darken with age.. I dont remember where I read it but I remember seeing it somewhere.. FWIW I saw the exact same thing happen in my clown.. when I added the second one to the tank he got darker... Maybe its kinda like us men go grey after marriage and kids ;)

HTH,
James

Melanism is not consistant as far as intensity or pattern but it is a very common occurance in most types of clown species to some extent.
