Confused about deep sand beds

Ok i need some info on DSB. I always thought you were supposed to avoid anaerobic sand beds. If someone could explain the way DSB work or give me a site that will explain it, it would be greatly appreciated.

All DSB's will crash inevitably. Dr. Shimeck's DSB just crashed. Look at the thread on Reef Central.

DSB's are highly debated, and I am leary of them, which is why my DSB is in my fuge where it is easily removed if need be.
