Yes, that works. I have soft, lps, and sps in my reef.

Personally, I'm a LED fan. Though I've never owned MH or a T5HO with more than 4 bulbs. The taotronics LEDs that you can find on Ebay are pretty affordable and there are several members of the forum that use them with pretty good results. I run Ecotech Radions personally though.
