I was thinking since you had some lr it converted the bit you had, my guess is error on one of the tests then.

Finally. Cycle has started. 2 positive tests in a row, one last night the other this morning. .25 ppm for my ammonia. All looking well accept the hermit crab. He isn't gonna make it.

So, I added some more live sand and 2 really nice pieces of LR to my tank. Any tips on how to get the sand off my rock without causing a huge sandstorm in my tank? We'll pretend like I already haven't done that...

Is it weird that my nitrites are gone and I have 10 ppm nitrates now? I think I just cycled in 3 days when im being told it should take weeks...if not months. I added some great LR the other day with all kinds of algae and hitchhikers...im assuming this had alot to do with it...but still this feels odd to me.

Get a new plastic and rubber balled turkey baster. I used it to blow sand off the rock. I also used it to blow off the rock or other loose waste material as I was siphoning water for my water changes.

If theres a lot of algae it could be their eating ammonia and nitrite.
