I'm about 2 1/2 weeks into cycling my tank, and I've had brown algae for about a week now on EVERYTHING. I've taken it off the glass and rubbed it off of some shells. Should I get rid of it, or will it go away on its own? Thanks, everyone.

are you talking about diatom algae? kind of rusty looking and easily comes off? if so, it will go away on its own... its almost certain you'll have it in a new tank, fresh or salt

just to set your expectations.. going away isn't in the next few days or weeks even.. sso hang in there, there's more to come...

Yeah, it's the diatom algae. This'll be a fun few weeks then... well, at least ugly. : ) Thanks, guys!
