Cycling - shrimp? lights? Skimmer?

Ok I'm using new live sand and well established live rock and the ammonia ( 0 ) hasn't risen at all yet after roughly 24 hours. What do you think about boosting it with a shrimp? When cycling should I have the skimmer or lights on? The rock has a nice purple color from before that I want to keep.

I'm in the middle of cycling a new tank as well, I used a fresh uncooked shrimp to get the ammonia to rise. It peaked by the 4th day and now is not present with my nitrites starting to come down and nitrates starting to become present.
