If the LFS is saying to top off with SW they have no clue and I would never ask them for advice again.
Your correct in your thinking, water evaporation leaves salt behind and you use fresh water to top off the tank.

Go back and ask the lady how the dead sea got the way it is

I've done retail.. still do part time.. If I dont know I say so. If they get mad I just tell them I'd rather not give them bad info lets ask ...... they are our expert.

I got a similar setup. 155g with 30g sump/fuge. 3x150mh lights. Canopy open in the back with two fans blowing.

I planned my set up with the sump/fuge on one side underneath Skimmer mounted in the middle. I put a 37g tank on the other side and used the JBJ auto top-off unit. I only have to fill the 37g with FW every 2 weeks or so. I love the JBJ.

I thought I responded yesterday but I don't see my post here....
My setup is similar to yours and Ray's. I have a 125 and I bought the JBJ. I got a 45 gallon Brute trash can (I was going overseas for a month) whihc now sets next to the tank. That get's filled once every 2-3 weeks with rodi water. I pump from there to the corner overflow. You want to make sure that the flow from the TO reservoir is above the water level in your reservoir. If it's not you'll create a siphon from the reservoir to the tank that won't shut off.
