Here are a few pictures of my first attempt at saltwater. I do have to say I like looking at the live rock more than my freshwater tanks lol. Bare with me as I try to aqua scape. Oh in addition I have never seen ammo levels as high as what I have right now. They are off the chart! Any newb advice would be greatly appreciated

More live rock and let that baby cycle well. Love it so far though!

I second the motion more live rock and maybe try some smart start complete SW

Live rock is definitely in its future. Thanks for the positive words. I will be adding more dry Fiji rock this week. With the cost of live rock locally at about $8 per lb it will be mostly dry rock for now. Will adding live rock later create a mini cycle?

Daaaaaam where the heck do you live that's double the price of Idaho live rock

Boise lol yea u can find it from like random people for cheap here sumtimes. It is usually right about four bucks a pound from the fish stores

Dry base rock is really cheap. I got BRS pukani rock which seems expensive, but the rock is so porous that you don't need that much. I'd say 1/2-1lb per gallon would work..maybe even less if you want. I bought 100 lbs for my 70 gallon and only used 3/4. There are 12 one foot rocks and 3 huge two feet rocks. They are fairly easy to aquascape b/c they have a seamless look (fit together nicely) and there's obviously no pests if that's a concern.
 I know I sound like a salesperson, but I just really love this rock and wanted to recommend it to you (y)

I live in northern Colorado. Live rock is really expensive. I went with dry rock for my entire setup. It will turn live within a few months :) Mine get covered in coralline algae.

Well my LFS had a shipment of live rock delivers yesterday so I went a bought 25lbs. Looks better but I will aqua scape it tomorrow after work
