The thought of paying $200+ for a hollow plastic tube and an air-pump (some don't even include the air pump) seems a little ridiculous.

The one in my tank is very simple and sits in the wet/dry. It couldn't have possibly cost more than $10-$20. It seems to work fine.

Has anyone made their own protein skimmer?
