Does Live Sand, Rock Need Light in Sump

I have a 20 gallon high sump for my 80 gallon high tank. To start I want to put live sand which is coming from a tank I am breaking down and live rock in the sump. To do that do I have to put a light on it in the sump?

Nope, unless there is anything on there that is photosynthetic you want to keep. If you just want the bacteria colonies, they will be fine with no light.

Just a friendly reminder to use the search feature this topic came up a couple days ago as well.

I searched it and I must of overlooked it. Thanks for the quick reply. I have some featherdusters on the rock but I guess I can do without them in the sump.

NP, the featherdusters will probably be fine as well, they are mostly filter feeders and will eat the extra particulates around. they may or may not survive depending on how large your level spike is when you cycle the new rock.
