Over the last few months I have realized several mistakes I made setting in up my tank. It's a 25 gallon Eclipse system with a bio-wheel, low lighting and 3 to 4 inches of crushed coral on the bottom. If I could start over I probably would change most of that.
However, over 4 months of running the tank (5 including the cycle) I have never been able to detect a single nitrate. None after the initial cycle, and none after a month without a water change. Is that pretty weird? From reading this forum I was expecting that I would never get the nitrates to a manageable level given my setup. I have used two different test kits. The tank is stocked with a hefty royal gramma, two clowns and several snails and hermits.
Anyway, just curious. I screwed everything else up, but maybe I did something right by accident.
