The skimmer you chose will still require an air pump to operate. It will likely be minimally effective. The skimmer is not a place to skimp. The test kit chosen will also not suffice. You will need to keep a check on ammonia, pH, nitrite, nitrate and alkalinity. I started with the aquarium pharm. master test kit and was pretty happy witwh it. The hydrometer will work but the swing arm type are much safer since they are plastic and not glass. I would still recommend a refractometer, they can be found for $40. The debate on salt is a big one but really any you choose will suffice as long as you monitor the water. The 25 gal bag means that the bag will only make 25 gal of water. That means if you plan a 20 gal tank it is enough for initial setup and a 25% water change after cycle then you would need more. Natural light will not be acceptable for anenomes since they are high light creatures. You would need at least 4 watts per gallon depending on light type. I left out mentioning the PH because it depends on your mechanical filtration. Without LR you would need some type of mechanical filter and the canister type add good water movement. That means you may only need one other PH to help it. Other things to remember are heaters, substrate and some type of decorations for the secure feeling of the fish.

Check out the Seaclone 100 skimmer, I picked one up for around 60 bucks at www.thatfishplace.com, and It works great. Plus it comes with a powerhead and its simple to assemble.

For the test kit, I use and recommend to the customers Aquarium Pharmeceuticals Test Kits, around 15 bucks.

Hydrometer I agree with Rmp, the swing arms are more accurate.

For salt, I use instant ocean, but to each his own on that subject.
Also, keep in mind displacement of water, so a 25gallon bag should have a decent amount left over.

I really recomend some lr, live sand, and a heater. Plus whatever filter you plan on using.

ok so in other words your saying when i convert my tank, empty it all out and put my fish in the 55 gal move the substrate over to the 55 gal fill it up with water from the 29 gallon tank move the filter from the 29 gal over to the 55 gal and have the 55 gal filter in the 29 gal tank and wash the sand and lay that at the bottom of the tank until i have a level of sand that i like and then add the lr and let my tank cycle until everything but nitrAtes are at 0 and then i can add some fish then 6-7 months later i can add anemones and such??? also, so i need a special light for the lr to actually be lr(so it lives) or will it work on sunlight?

A bit more to it than that, but that is the general idea. As for lighting, if it is a FO or FOWLR than NO lighting is recommendedthat you commonly get with a new tank. It is very inexpensive but you still can not rely on sunlight alone.

LR can use NO lights. You wont have any problems with that.
