it has to do with the way that they escape from competitors. They throw their foot out to push off and get a head start (I've been wanting one). Where did you get yours?

Peppermint Shrimp:
Crush two tbs minced mint leaves (no stems) with the juice of two limes, two tbs of sugar and a shot of light rum. Marinade eight cleaned jumbo shrimp for two hours in fridge or overnight (overnight is best). Skewer and salt shrimp. Broil or grill over medium high heat until shrimp become opaque (apx. two and a half min per side). Serve with black beans cooked with garlic, green onions, bacon and topped with a slice of lime.

http://www.marinedepotlive.com/324374.html for a little detail on Fighting Conch

Etropicals seems much more competative with their pricing. how is the quality??

Be careful when you pick up a fighting conch. Especially if it's a larger one. They can stab you with their "foot". I can't remember the correct name for it. Although it's not really very painful, it is unpleasant for you...the one who gets stuck and for the conch...who usually gets dropped when it happens.
