the skimmer skims the water not the surface. I know an overflow box would be good but I already have so much junk on the back of this tank ...lol

Just do a wc. Then keep the lights off for 2 days and turn the 2nd power head to the top if the tank

Drag a paper towel across the surface rolling it up to pull the film off the surface.

Keep using the paper towel. Eventually it will go away as it did on my 30 gallon.
