If I would have 1 gallon of liverock per gallon of water in a 55 gallon aquarium, starting off with dead sand (later to become live) what would be my filtration options? I have heard from you guys that bio-wheels will eventually work against the liverock and arent good, and isnt mechanical filtration not ideal for a tank with a bunch of liverock? A seaclone protien skimmer to hang on to a sump, would be cheap, but what else is required and are seaclones any good?

seaclones in my opinion are decent skimmers but others will definatly disagree. depending on the depth of your sandbed.... the lr and ls along with your skimmer could possibly be a good filtration system.
