I'm really looking for a tank-mounted fixture, I don't think the parents would be particularly amused with these hanging from the ceiling.

You could suspend it from wall brackets. Or suspend it from DIY cabinet mounted bent conduit over the tank.

Anything that involves drilling holes into the house I'm pretty much not allowed to do.

Check out this thread, post #3:
Help with light mounting!
Not sure if the following image will attach but it is from the above link:

There is no drilling into the walls or ceiling. The setup is attached to the back of the aquarium cabinet.

Ah yes... Problem number 2 is that I have no stand, the tank will sit on one of mothers dearest cabinets.

I was thinking something like this..

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00E...robot_redir=1#

I was looking at the 24" one but the tank is 19"... Does that look adjustable to you?

FINAL List of Equipment

I'm currently bidding on a fitting (I won't say which one) which is dimmable and can be set on a timer.

It's about 20x what I need so I'm really preparing for the future.

All pond solutions do an aquarium hanging kit. It's under £30 and really good.
